RULES & REGULATIONS
Get ready to smash some (volley)balls, these are the official rules of LUG Beach Volleyball.
RETURN TO PLAY
Due to COVID, LUG has implemented new rules to ensure that our leagues can return in a manner that is safe and healthy for our players, officials, families,, teams, staff, fans and the community.
- Do not come to the field if you are sick, have been in contact with someone who is sick, or show symptoms.
TEAMS IN VIOLATION OF THESE RULES WILL BE EJECTED FROM THE LEAGUE WITHOUT REFUND.

Screening | - Teams are required to check in with the QR code on site to do a health screening.

COVID Rules | - Please follow local guidelines for COVID-19 based on your city, state, province and country.
- .Limit close contact with other players and the sharing of equipment.
- Do not spit, dip, chew, or seed during games or at the facility.

CODE OF CONDUCT
LUG enforces a strict code of conduct for all of our players. Any team caught or suspected of drinking, doing drugs, or abusing these rules in any format will be automatically ejected from the league without refund.
- Absolutely no alcohol or drugs at the diamond.
- Smoking is not permitted on the field or in the dugout.
- Respect the Umpire at all times. The Umpires call is final.
- Respect your teammates, your opponents, and the rules of the game.
Any team or individual involved with any incident relating to alcohol, drugs, fighting, vandalism, or abusive behaviour or language may be expelled from the league without refund.
EQUIPMENT
- LUG Provided: We provide 1 volleyball per team
- Player Provided: Teams are welcome and encouraged to bring more volleyballs to the courts
STATS KEEPING
- LUG does NOT track stats for volleyball.
- Captains are responsible for reporting their scores to the LUG representative following their games.
- Teams should track and save their own game results in the event of any discrepancies with online reporting.
SEASON REGULATIONS
The following rules apply Competitive & COED Divisions.

COED Lineup Rules | 6 players per side Min 2 women must be on the court to play.
In the event that only 1 women shows up, captains can agree to waive the default and play the game. If this occurs, the team must play 1 player less. |
Match Ups | Match-ups will be posted on the league schedule. Teams will play multiple games per game night. |
Officials | All games are self officiated |
Game Set Up | Volleyball nets will be set up by the players or LUG staff upon arrival to the game. To determine who serves first, teams can either choose to play a rally game (minimum 3 crosses over the net), coin toss or rock-paper- scissors. • Teams are responsible for keeping score and time. |
Official Game | Each match is a best of 3 games format. The first two games are rally-point scoring to 25 points, the first team to 25 wins. The third game is rally-point scoring to 15 points, the first team to 15 wins. |
General Rules | - A player may play the ball off any part of his/her body, including feet.
- A player may not make two consecutive hits of the ball, except where the player has contacted the ball on a block, and then the player may hit the ball a second time.
- Tips are allowed. However, teams can choose to play without this rule (i.e. tips not allowed and players use a closed fist instead). This must be decided on before the game start
- Players are to call balls ‘in’ or ‘out’ of bounds. If the ball touches any part of a court line, it is ‘in’. The ball must completely pass the line to be ‘out’. If there is a dispute, resume play by re-serving the ball with no point awarded. If a disagreement escalates, any disputes should be discussed amongst the two team captains only. •
- If a match concludes early, the teams can continue to play, but the score of the fourth game will not be recorded.

Substitutes | No substitutes or ringers . Every player must be rostered and registered through LUG. |
Final Thoughts | LUG reserves the rights to have final judgement on all scores and dispute settlement in the event of special circumstances. |
SUSPENSIONS GUIDELINES

WAIVER
As part of registration, all players agree to the LUG COVID Clause.
