THE WAG CUP, SUMMER LEAGUES, HIRING DEADLINES...

Hello Everyone!

We're excited to finally say...that for the first time in 2 years(!), ALL of our hockey leagues are finishing the playoffs!

It's been a wild ride to get to this point. From the onset of COVID in 2020, to the on again-off again season of 2021, this year has finally, almost felt 'normal' and we're happy that all our leagues are heading into playoffs with championship SZN on the horizon.

With playoffs just around the corner (or started/finishing in some cases), we wanted to update everyone on the WAG Cup Championship.

HIRING DEADLINE IS MARCH 29th for 2022-23 CAMPUS Jobs

THE WAG CUP 2022

The WAG Cup is the pinnacle of the LUG Hockey season. The WAG brings together the best of all our divisions for a year end, winner take all, Memorial Cup style tournament. In a normal year, we host this event in mid to late March and organize a huge afterparty to toast to all our teams and players.

This year, due to the lockdowns across Canada and in some parts of the US, we are 4-5 weeks behind schedule in completing our season and in determining our local playoff champions. 

Why does that matter? This means that almost no leagues are finishing before April 6th making a winner take all tournament not possible for all of LUG as it conflicts too heavily with exam periods. That said...

It DOESN'T MEAN WE DON'T HAVE Something PLANNED...

NEW REGIONAL WAG CUPS 

New for this season, we are hosting regional WAG Cups to give more teams more meaningful games to play for. These tournaments are scheduled at the EARLIEST possible date based on when each division finishes their finals. 

As you will see, a lot of WAGs are right before or at the beginning of exam period for many of you. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about this as there simply was no time left to schedule in games in earlier. That's why we organized the games to be early in the day and geographically as close to each other as possible so that teams could zip in, win a championship, and zip home to get back to school/studying in a couple of hours. 

HOW IS IT GOING TO WORK? 

  • Teams who win their finals will be offered a spot in the tournament.They will have 4 hours to confirm their attendance. After which we will offer entry to the runner up, followed by teams in the order they finished in the standings. 
  • We need extremely fast responses from those invited in order to make this work.
  • Teams will be required to pay a $97 tournament fee to secure their spot.
