LUG All-Star, you?

It's that time of year folks. LUG Hockey Go-ers all across the nation are gearing up for the best of the best, looking to pull a Paul Bissonnette in the St. Louis Blues alumni game and pull off the classic Gordie Howe HAT-TRICK.

None-the-less, we wanted to provide a status update on how some have currently went and touch on some that are about to happen.

So far, we've had Ottawa, Hamilton, Thunder Bay, Guelph and Waterloo All-stars all gear up for one heck of a tilt. We even went ahead and got a few words from our commissioners to describe how the events went.

King Highlights: ASG Recap

"The Waterloo King Division LUG all-star game was a huge success beginning with the 3 on 3 tournament into the night. Thanks to the commissioners John and Josh, the idea switching the all-star game format to 3 on 3 was a huge success. With 3-4 players from all teams competing for the chance to win prize money, LUG apparel and a case of beer, all games were close and intense. Hey Y’all and Cottage Springs were more than generous in terms hooking all the lads up with some cold drinks all day. The tournament ended with the Busch Ice defeating the Fighting Amish in a close final of 4-2. All participants did not go home empty handed thanks to the countless beverages our fantastic sponsorships supplied for the day. After the game, the boys headed home and rallied for the LUG all-star official after party at The Drink Uptown. Thanks to the generosity of so many, the boys enjoyed some bottles & drink tickets making the night a memorable one. Everyone had a tremendous day from the 3 on 3 tournament right into the night. Best of luck to all teams in the remaining games and playoffs!"

Hess Highlights: ASG Recap

"Last week the LUG Hamilton boys took to the ice for a star-studded All-Star Game, pitting the league’s best against one another. The players came out buzzing for warmups and welcomed the start of the game with the Canadian national anthem sung by none other than Canada’s very own Celine Dion (on Spotify). The game got off to a hot start with the Green squad opening the scoring a minute into the first period. This was only the beginning of what would be a long night for the Yellow team, who ended up going down three by the end of the fist. The boys fought back hard with rush after rush but couldn’t put one past the absolute brick wall of a tendy at the other end. After two, the crowd was looking at a score that no one could have imagined, Green up by five and Yellow still staring at a donut on the board. Halfway into the period, the Yellow team was looking up at an insurmountable lead of 7-0 shifting their sights to one thing; end the shutout. It seemed almost impossible, but in the dying seconds of the third Yellow picked off a pass and went down on a three-man rush, ending what had looked to be a perfect night for Green’s goaltender Mark Nesbitt. With a final score of 7-1, the guys gathered together at centre ice to shake hands, putting the game behind them and looking ahead to playoffs to compete for a spot at the WAG. MVPS and honourable mentions; Jake Page (Team Green) and Dawson Levy (Team Yellow/Black) The boys finished up the night with some free pints and good times at The Dirty Dog, ready to play again the following Monday."

Hess Highlights: ASG Recap

"Byward's 3rd annual all star game was one for the books. The biggest PLUG's from the Lansdowne and Rideau divisions squared off to represent team Hey Y'all and team Sneaky Weasel for the right to raise the Hey Y'all cup. The lads were treated like royalty with strobe lights, goal horns and even some player announcements so that their dates knew they actually played. In front of a sell out LUG crowd (6 moms), team Hey Y'all won both games with scores of 6-5 and 7-2. Lots of laughs were shared and even more hard waters were drank leading into the night. After the game, the real festivities began. Thanks to Hey Y’all and Sneaky Weasel, all the boys and ladies were properly hydrated before heading to the Whiskey bar Ottawa, who hosted every single rocket and plug in the Byward. With over 150 tickets sold and bottles of jagger being slammed it was quite a successful night for the plugs and studs."
