When + Where We Play — Important Season Information
When We Play

LUG plays games Sunday - Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons. Some marquee games including Rivalry Nights, Winter Classics and the All Star Game may take place Friday or Saturday nights. Game days and times vary from week to week.

Where We Play

LUG uses a variety of arenas in each market each week. We book the best ice available whenever possible. Some games may take place within approximately a 30-minute drive and/or 25-mile radius of your campus. Some exceptions apply.

Black Out Dates

We do not play on key dates in the academic calendar such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Final Exams, December Break, Reading Week, Spring Break, the Super Bowl, St. Patrick's Day or other statutory holidays. We do play on Sunday evenings returning from scheduled vacations and breaks.

Flexibility Policy

Every effort will be made to create a consistent schedule. Some games, times or facilities may fall outside the advertised information to manage emergencies, cancellations, changes in league size or other situations where schedule flexibility is required.

 Team + Division Details

Team division placement may be adjusted after registration and during realignment. Not every city offers all six divisions. Where there are not enough teams to offer separate divisions, division's may be combined and then redrawn after realignment. If registration numbers allow, Open Divisions may be split by skill level. Divisions may also be merged where appropriate to ensure sufficient opponent variety throughout the season while maintaining competitive balance.

Upper

Athletic players looking for higher-level, competitive hockey.

Mid

Competitive players looking for balanced, competitive games.

Lower

Recreational players who still want to compete.

Rookie

Newer players, ODR legends and players looking for a more recreational game.

Women's Rec

Recreational women's division.

Women's Comp

Competitive women's division.

*Women can play in any LUG division.

How Division Placement + Competitive Balance Works
01
Team Captains register for their preferred division.
02
Team Captains indicate their skill level within their preferred division based on a 1–10 score range, 10 being the best team, 1 being the worst.
03
LUG creates the initial divisions based on the number of teams at each skill level. Divisions may be merged or split further to create the best possible alignment. Cities with less than 6 teams total will be in an OPEN division only.
04
Teams play within their division until the realignment date.
05
The Division Realignment Process begins.
06
LUG identifies cities where Division Realignment is possible based on the number and make-up of divisions. Not every city will be eligible. Teams in eligible cities will receive a survey and communication from LUG.
07
Teams complete a survey indicating whether they would prefer to move up, move down, or remain at their current skill level (where applicable).
08
LUG evaluates team performance and survey results to identify potential realignment opportunities.
09
Divisions are realigned where appropriate, or no changes are made.
10
Division Realignment takes effect for the second half of the season. Once realignment is complete, division make-up is final.

Code of Conduct

LUG maintains a zero-tolerance policy for conduct that negatively impacts players, officials, staff or facilities.

Facility Rules

Alcohol, smoking, vaping, drugs and intoxication are not permitted at league games or facilities.

Defaults + Forfeits

Teams that default games may be subject to league fines and playoff eligibility restrictions.

Registration + Refunds

All registrations are subject to LUG's registration, roster and refund policies.

Team Names

All team names are audited and may be changed if inappropriate. Team names are public and can be indexed by Google. Your school, employer or a future background search may be able to find them. Be mindful when choosing your name. If you create a team called “The Mentally Bedarded” or “Dixon Cider,” consider whether having that name connected to you publicly would help or hurt your career or future opportunities.

Simple rule: if you would not want the team name appearing beside your name in a Google search, LinkedIn search or employment background check, choose something else.
