WHY WE STARTED LUG OA (OVER AGER) Hockey

Years ago, we started LUG to solve a problem: college students were going from playing hockey 6 days a week (or more) in high school to barely skating in post-secondary. 

So we started to fix that. We launched a competitive league where we could play with our friends and classmates, track stats, give out team jerseys and enjoy the game in a way that just made sense. What started small in just 2 cities with less than 20 teams has now grown beyond our wildest expectations. 

Fast-forward to today and the same problem exists after graduation with adult hockey. Adult hockey leagues just don’t cut it. No community, no vibe, no stats, late games, and leagues that don’t actually care about making it a real league. The leagues run to ‘sell ice’ and are not built for the players by players who love the game and know it well.

So once again, LUG is going to change that. 

Introducing LUG OA

Last year, we built LUG OA, our first-ever league for adults (17+ to play but targeted at those 21+) who still want to play real hockey. We launched in 5 cities with a clear goal: to reimagine adult rec hockey. We built a league with structure, energy, and purpose. Including full schedules, stats, consistent game days, playoff series, longer games, better jerseys, more games in the season, and even shootouts and overtime in some cities. And wherever possible we chased down the best rinks in the city and skated at places like the Maple Leaf Gardens, TD Arena (Ottawa 67’s, Ottawa Charge), and Saldon Arena (Barrie Colts). It’s the kind of league that fits your life now, where you work all day, but still want to show up at night and play real, competitive hockey.

Season 2 Is Now Here

LUG OA is back this Fall and expanding. We’re adding more cities and skill levels to give you a premium hockey league experience that fits your schedule and feels right. Season details are listed below and we’re adding new locations to the program all summer.
